Quill · full-cast audio for web serials
Quill reads your story, works out who's speaking, and gives every character their own voice: the narrator, the hero, the villain, and the tavern keeper with three lines. The cast stays locked for the whole book, so chapter 40 sounds like chapter 1. You get a listen link to drop into your author notes, Patreon or Discord.
Auditions cost nothing, and signing in with email adds free credits to narrate a short scene. No subscription. No API keys. Made for human-written stories, with AI voices you disclose to your readers.
What you get
01 · Cast
Quill builds a cast list straight from your text and gives each character their own voice. Audition voices on actual lines from your book before you commit (auditions don't use credits). The voice you pick stays pinned, so your main character sounds the same in chapter 40 as in chapter 2.
02 · Names
Invented names, spells and place names get a pronunciation you set once per character, and it carries through every chapter of the book. No more “Xy’lithra” pronounced three different ways.
03 · Retakes
Quill's director pass listens back to each chapter and flags lines that fall flat. Don't like how the villain delivered a line? Re-record just that line instead of the whole chapter.
04 · Listen link
Every book gets an optional public listen page: a player with your cover and chapter list that works in any browser, no account needed. Paste it into author notes, a Patreon post or your Discord. Turn it off any time, and turning it back on gives you a fresh link.
Also useful for: hearing your manuscript out loud before you publish (the studio's read-along view highlights who's speaking as the audio plays), or making a full-cast sample to pitch to audio publishers.
How it works
Plain text, EPUB, PDF or Word (.docx), up to 4 MB. Everything in one upload shares one cast, so upload the whole arc, or paste a single chapter to try it out.
Quill finds your characters and suggests a voice for each. Audition, swap and set pronunciations.
Chapter by chapter, at your pace. You only pay for the chapters you narrate.
An MP3 per chapter, one stitched MP3 for the whole book, and a public listen link.

$1.65 per 1,000 words
About $5 for a 3,000-word chapter, paid from prepaid credit packs. Bigger packs work out cheaper. Chapter counts below assume 3,000 words each.
| Pack | Credits | Roughly narrates |
|---|---|---|
| $10 | 1,000 | ~6,000 words (nearly 2 chapters) |
| $25 | 2,750 | ~16,500 words (about 5 chapters) |
| $50 | 6,000 | ~36,000 words (about 11 chapters) |
No subscription, and credits don't reset monthly. A 60,000-word book comes to about $100. For comparison, a human narrator at a typical $100–$400 per finished hour runs about $650–$2,600 for the same book. Narration is billed at 30 credits per 1,000 characters; word counts assume about 5.5 characters per word.
FAQ
Voices by INaudio (formerly Findaway) currently only accepts AI audio from a short list of approved tools, and Quill isn't on it.
No. Audible's ACX requires human narration and prohibits third-party AI narration. Quill audio isn't eligible there, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Your story stays yours. Under our Terms of Service, you keep ownership of the content you upload and the outputs you create, and you can download the audio Quill makes for you. The voices come from ElevenLabs, so if you plan to sell the audio, read the Terms first and email hello@claycable.com with any questions about your use.
Yes. Only narrate work you hold the audio rights to. If you've signed an audio deal (Podium, Soundbooth, etc.), check your contract first.
Yes, and we recommend it. Kobo and Spotify require disclosure. Readers take it better when you say so up front, e.g. “Full-cast AI audio, story 100% by me.”
Yes. Claude reads your text and casts the characters, and the voices are ElevenLabs AI voices. There are no human narrators involved.
No. Quill reads your text and performs it. It doesn't rewrite your prose.
An MP3 per chapter, a single stitched MP3 of the whole book, and an optional public listen page.
Uploads up to 4 MB, and books up to about 200,000 words parse reliably. For longer serials, upload an arc or a volume at a time. Each upload gets its own cast for now.
The quickest way to find out is on your own words: start free, upload a chapter, and audition voices on real lines from it. Auditions don't use credits.
